IF YOU CAN READ YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONES’ LIFE
Here is a way you can set your own hours, choose someone with whom and an area in which you want to work. Just call or submit your information below to find out how you can help make a difference. Bradford and Wyoming Counties are fortunate to have had this service for 35 years. Can you help it survive into the future?
Volunteers are required to attend a nine hour training workshop which is scheduled several times a year in various communities. Previous teaching experience is unnecessary. If you read, write, and care, you can help.
The student and tutor meet at a time and place convenient for both. Tutors are asked to commit themselves to meeting once or twice a week two to three hours with their student. Tutoring usually takes place at a neutral location, such as a church, school or library. Tutors receive on-going support from Literacy Program staff and have opportunities for further training on local, regional, state, and national levels.
Our students are aged from 16-96, with a variety of reading, math and comprehension levels. We have a number of Pre-GED students who need a little help to be able to take their tests. We have students who want to earn their driver license or become US citizens. We have educated immigrants who want to better their communication skills.
